J. Woollcott is a Canadian writer born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. A Nice Place to Die is the first novel in her Belfast Murder Series, and introduces Police Service of Northern Ireland detective DS Ryan McBride and his partner DS Billy Lamont.

In 2019, A Nice Place to Die won the Romance Writers of America Daphne du Maurier Award, Unpublished, for Mainstream Mystery and Suspense, was long-listed in the Crime Writers of Canada Awards of Excellence in 2019 and 2020, and was short-listed in 2021. A Nice Place to Die was also a finalist in the 2023 Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Awards. Her latest novel, Blood Relations, is part two in the series and has just been released. 

She is a graduate of the Humber School for Writers and a member of Sisters in Crime and International Thriller Writers.
